We had a 2-days break from the rain last week. It was such a relief. Everyone was able to get outside, mow their yards and clean up after the storms. And then, Saturday night, it began all over again and hasn’t stopped. One neighboring county has evacuated….the WHOLE county! Below is a picture of a friend’s house in Possum Trot (yes, there really is a place called Possum Trot. I grew up there.)
As you can see, they built a wall out of sandbags, but it just wasn’t enough. She said the water is 3 feet high in the living room.
Animals are being washed out of their dens.
Poor deer!
I realize that it could be worse. As far as I know, no one as died in this flood (thank God). But it is still really, really bad. Our well is covered in water and has been contaminated. We’ve had to go out and buy bottles of water to drink and cook with.
Everything that has been going on has really made me stop and think. Maybe we should have a food storage. Do you have food storage supply? It is almost unheard of in Kentucky. That’s why I know nothing about it. Are there any good websites you can direct me to about it? I found Fun With Food Storage. It looks like a great site and is jammed packed full of info. I’m just overwhelmed by it all.
ANYWAY….
Let’s change the mood! What have you been up to this week?! Show me!

I hear you about the rain - it just won't quit. I should be glad it's not as bad as those photos though. Hope they have sun & dry days coming soon.
Hang in there! We have had some sunny days mixed in Tennessee so not as bad as what you have had. Raining today again though. Surely it will be over soon...
That's terrible about your friend's home!! Hoping things recover quickly!
Oh my goodness, what a sight. I am so sorry, good luck with food storage, I have been starting out slow, buying something for storage each week, and am slowly building up. My goodness, is there anything we can do to help, is the red cross in your area looking for any certain type of donations.
Heart,
Carlee
Thanks for hosting. I am sick of the rain too. Ugh. Can't go out and paint in this junk!
I hear you about the rain. I'm in a blue mood because of it too. Then I feel guilty about that because the tornado sirens went off only once around here and it was an F1 that touched down in the next county and Alabaman and your area have it much much worse.
As for food storage, I coupon so I have some extra shelves in my utility room for food storage when I find something on sale or the sale + coupon makes an item very cheap to buy even if I don't need it right away (I'm not the person with a garage full of deodorant. I don't have that kind of time to devote to grocery shopping) http://condo-blues.blogspot.com/2011/04/book-page-storage-shelves.html.
I'm sorry about the flooding. I hope you will see some sunshine soon!
I don't have a food storage site to suggest, but something I've started doing recently is buying one extra case of canned food each week when I go shopping to put in my storage room. I try to buy something that is on sale and that I know I can rotate and use before it expires, like chili, spaghetti sauce, vegetables, fruit, etc. I also started buying a 5 gallon water jug or two each week so that I will have a few weeks worth of water stored for an emergency as well. It's worked really well for us so far and has helped to spread out the cost of building up a food storage.
Please continue to keep us posted on how you and your neighbors are doing. I hope things take a turn for the better soon. :)
Oh goodness. For all the jokes about Seattle and rain, and while we have seasonal flood issues, it's nothing like this on an ongoing basis. I hope it clears up soon! Take care.
Thank you for hosting. This is my first visit here. So sorry to see all of the flooding in your area. I am from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and we went through this in 2008 and are still in recovery mode. Floods are absolutely devastating. You need to live through it to understand it because unlike tornados, so many people and businesses do not have flood insurance.
Best of luck,
Pam
those pictures are crazy! I can't believe that. I hope everything is okay and the rain clears up.

OMGosh! That is terrible! I hope everyone stays safe and everything dries out very soon.
:(
I'm so sorry y'all are going through this. We have been praying at home and at church for all of you.
oh my gosh, poor deer indeed! i hope this rain stops for you, it looks like you've got a little too much!
I live in South Florida, so I have emergency EVERYTHING squirreled away to survive two weeks with no electricity or supplies like we did with Hurricanes Andrew and Wilma. I hope you don't have any lasting damage from all of this.
Thanks so much for hosting! I hope the rain takes a break for you. Have a great week.
I hope you get a break soon. I remember when I was a child, my mother always kept a large stock of the basics like, sugar, flour, and canned goods in the pantry. I did the same this past winter when Illinois was hit with our big snow.
Thanks for hosting - especially given the current circumstances!! I wish you and your family and friends well as these storm pass through.
finally got this coffee table done which is a big accomplish given our back draft of half started projects!
I'm so sorry for all the rain and flooding you are experiencing. We do have a food storage and it really does give you peace of mind during times like these.
