A few years ago, my pastor’s wife showed me how to make these great candle holders. They are simple, cheap, and quite fun to make!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- empty jars- widemouth works best. ex: pickle jars, salsa jars, dip jars
- OR you can use small glass vases from Dollar Tree
- decorative napkins with large detail. I bought mine at Wal-Mart.
- very sharp scissors
- Mod Podge
- fine glitter
- foam brush
Using your sharp scissors, cut around your image. You may need to exclude parts of your image, depending on the size of your jar.
I can make 4 candle holders with this one napkin! So cheap!
Paint a layer of Mod Podge inside the jar where you want your image.
Carefully insert your image and smooth out best you can. Because napkins have 2 layers, you will be tempted to separate them. Don’t do it! It will make your image too thin and once you add your glitter, you won’t be able to see it.
Your image will probably look wrinkly and horrible at this point but I promise that when it dries, it will look totally different!
Now add another coat of Mod Podge over the image and the whole inside of the jar, including the bottom.
Quickly cover the Mod Podge with glitter.
Set your candle holder aside and let it dry completely! It may take overnight! Allowing the Mod Podge to dry is what will take the longest!
Yes, it still looks bad but be patient!
The jar on the left is completely dry while the one on the right is not. See how much better it will look!
Once completely dry, tap your jar and dump out any loose glitter. Then, add another coat of Mod Podge over the glitter to seal it.
Dry completely.
I hot glued twine around the rim of the jars.
Then I added ribbon and a little bow!
If you are going to burn a candle in your new holders, I highly suggest that you use votives that come in small glasses. I found mine at Hobby Lobby.
I hot glued them to the bottom for security.
These were so cheap to make and lots of fun! I see Christmas gifts in the future!

Very pretty! Wouldn't those be pretty with a snowflake for Christmas, too? Too bad Adam's not big enough to make snowflakes yet. :)
