My mom is in the process of redecorating her bedroom. She likes all thingz Americana. I spotted a wall hanging at a very well-known hobby store last week, put it in my buggy to buy, then realized I had everything I needed, at home, to make one myself!
This is what I used…
and this is how it turned out!
I removed the glass from the frame then painted it white and brushed a brown glaze over it (paint & water).
I cut a piece of fabric from an old button-up shirt…
ripped strips of canvas drop cloth (about 1 1/4 inches wide)
and hand stitched them to the red fabric.
I picked out some buttons from my stash and stitched them on, in no certain order.
The blue checked fabric is a scrap from a pair of capris that I didn’t wear anymore. I raveled the edges and stitched it on.
The wooden star was clearanced to $.09 at Hobby Lobby. I had bought it a few months ago, not really knowing what I was going to do with it. Turns out, it was perfect for this project! I just painted it and glued on a button!
I used spray glue to adhere the whole flag to a piece of thick cardboard then popped it in the frame. This frame still had the metal staple looking thingies (that hold the back on) in it so I used them to hold it all together. I covered the back with a piece of craft paper, just to give it a finished look.
I gave it to my mom on Mother’s Day. She loved it and it’s gonna look great in her Americana bedroom!
