New Look for an Old Cabinet

If you remember from my last post, I mentioned that I had been working on some furniture pieces. Here is the first one!
cabinet
This is actually a filing cabinet that my husband and I bought about 8 years ago. Here’s what it looked like before:

See the scratches on the top?

That would be thanks to this creature:

So after much sanding,
sand
priming, painting, painting, more painting, and a coat of Smoke Glaze…

I am very pleased with the end result!
And that cute little wreath…
Well, I’m a copycat…
Sorta.
Bridgette made her Tag-Your-It Wreath, which turned out so cute,
So I put my spin on one!
wreath
I twisted some jute twine and cotton twine together and wrapped it around the wreath (which, of course I found at the thrift store for 10¢!).
I made the roses out of scraps of canvas drop cloth.
The “leaves” are shoestrings…that I.dug.out.of.the.trash.  Oh yes I did. When my husband saw it, he said, “guess I’m not allowed to throw shoestrings away anymore.” No, no your not.
Anyway, I LOVE it. Thank you, Bridgette, for the inspiration!
More furniture pieces to come soon!

This looks amazing!! I have this basket-y texture on my headboard and dresser, wonder if the same thing would work with faux wood?

Also, thanks for your sweet comments about my blocks!! They are so addictive to make, I'm trying not to give them to everyone I know :)

Have a great week!

LOVE the wreath! the transformation of the cabinet is just great. I so need to touch up some of my office furniture... finishes are all wonky and scratched. I just may need to make a wreath like this for my side of the space :)

Have an awesome day!
